Promoting education and supporting those after an opportunity to learn and evolve through knowledge is the key hub of the Foundation’s activities.

2014 – Fulbright Foundation

Grant to the Fulbright Foundation in support of its programme for the professional training of Greek teachers of Secondary Education. Specifically, for the academic year 2014–2015 the third “Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Foundation Scholarship” was awarded to a Greek scientist for the Programme for the Professional Training of Greek teachers of Secondary Education in the field of humanities, conducted in US universities.

The programme aims to familiarise students with the modern teaching methods employed in the USA.

The Fulbright Programme is a pioneering international programme of educational and cultural exchange, instituted in the United States in 1946 by Arkansas senator J. William Fulbright. The supranational character is a key feature of the Foundation, whose aim is to promote mutual understanding between Greece and the United States of America by providing opportunities for educational and cultural exchanges to Greek and American citizens — students, academics, scientists, researchers, artists and educators.

The scholars are selected by independent national committees on the basis of their academic and professional track record, personality, career and leadership skills.

Since 1948, when the implementation of the Programme started in Greece, the Fulbright Foundation has given over 4,700 scholarships to Greeks and Americans and has provided free advice about studying in the USA to thousands of citizens. The ranks of Fulbright scholars include Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winners, prime ministers and state leaders, professors and distinguished scientists, ambassadors, artists, high-court judges and leaders of corporations and organisations. www.fulbright.gr
