Tom Hanks visited the excavation for the second time

Tom Hanks arrived at Despotiko on a warm June morning with his Greek-born wife Rita Wilson. This is not the first time he has visited the site. “Years ago he had come and helped with the excavation for two weeks as part of the team. It was just before the filming of the 2006 film The Da Vinci Code. The actor wanted to experience the excavation and the emotions of an archaeologist investigating. In fact, he was familiar with agricultural work, he knew how to dig,” Yannos Kourayos tells K. In this year’s visit he was guided around the archaeological site, saw the four tanks, was interested to learn about the water system of the sanctuary and everything the archaeologists told him about the new findings. “In addition, he was impressed with the speed of the restoration work, in the temple and in the restaurant of the Sanctuary of Apollo. Tom Hanks was photographed with students and workers of the excavation and did not refuse commemorative shots to visitors arriving at Despotiko by boat.
