The Athens Children’s General Hospital “Pan. & Aglaia Kyriakou” is pleased to announce a grant of 60,000 euros by Pavlos and Alexandra Canellopoulos Foundation. The grant is intended for the Ophthalmology Department and the purchase of a special fundus imaging camera. This camera (with fluorescein angiography), is valuable for the ophthalmological screening of newborns hospitalized at the “Pan. & Aglaia Kyriakou” hospital, as well as in the units of “Alexandra” and “Elena Venizelos”. The screening is performed on a weekly basis, in order to detect the development of any retinopathy an treat it successfully and in time.
The Ophthalmology Clinic serves 7,500 cases a year. Such advanced technology equipment allows the hospital to maintain its high level of expertise in children’s fundus pathologies. The imaging camera is considered a tool of great value in modern ophthalmology, dramatically improving the level of services delived to children.
This is the second grant in under three years to the Children’s General Hospital “Pan. & Aglaia Kyriakou”, preceded by a chemical and thermal disinfection washer for surgical instruments.
