The Foundation for the Development of Social Work (IAKE) is a non-profit entity supervised by the Ministry of Health & Social Solidarity, whose aim is to promote social work. It was created by YWCA Greece in 1979 to run the School of Social Work which YWCA had established in 1948, and in 1984 it became part of the Athens Technological Education Institution (TEI). IAKE has a multifaceted contribution to the development of social work through educational events and training programmes in Greece and Cyprus for social workers, sociologists, psychologists, educators, etc. in the area of social problems and the modern methods of addressing them. The Foundation has a comprehensive library, carries out studies and works with public departments, institutions and organisations.
