The Archaeological Museum of Elefsina meets the future

In a modern aesthetically and functionally museum space

27.03.2023

The Archaeological Museum of Elefsina has been transformed into a modern aesthetically and functionally museum space, a centre of international interest for Elefsina and its history, thanks to a significant donation of 500,000 euros from the Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Foundation.

The main objectives of the re-exhibition of the important artefacts housed in the Museum are the transmission of the scientific discourse in a comprehensible way, the upgrading of the communication dynamics and educational function of the exhibition through the use of audiovisual media, as well as the active participation of visitors. The regeneration of the Museum is a milestone in the context of Elefsina as European Capital of Culture 2023. The project, which transforms the emblematic archaeological site as a whole, was completed with funds from the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

The re-exhibition of the Elefsina Archaeological Museum was inaugurated on 24/2/2023 with honorary presences such as the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou and the Minister of Culture and Sports, Mrs. Lina Mendoni, the Municipal Authority of the city and many other distinguished guests.
