“Kids’ Athletics”, based on an idea by HOC President Spyros Kapralos, is a program designed to popularize the events of classical athletics among children through a combination of various team sport activities in the form of a game. It includes three groups of sports:
a) track events, b) throwing events, and c) jumping events. The program is aimed at three age groups: 7-8 years, 9-10 years and 11-12 years. It was launched as a pilot program in 2010-11 from Attica and specifically the Panathinaic Stadium, with a view for it to spread throughout Greece. It was supported from the beginning by the Paul & Alexandra Canellopoulos Foundation.
“Kids’ Athletics” is included in the broader series of events by the Hellenic Olympic Committee for the opening of the Panathinaic Stadium to the public. After the completion of the program, the children were thrilled, a fact that particularly pleased both the President and everyone at the Greek Olympic Committee since it proved that the initiative was a success.
