dimokratiaThe genetic analyzer is used for more than 16 tests necessary for patients with chronic leukaemias, and the laboratory performs about 6,000 tests annually.
Athens, October 31, 2022 – With the donation of the Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Foundation, Aurora – Together Against Hematological Diseases, always supporting patients with hematological diseases, managed to fill the urgent need for a new genetic analyzer at the “EVANGELISMOS” hospital.
The new genetic analyzer, which replaced the older one that had been decommissioned, is vital for patients with hematologic malignancies. It is used by more than 35 hospitals in the country and for more than 6,000 tests every year necessary to diagnose acute leukaemias, chronic leukaemias and myeloproliferative neoplasms.
Apart from diagnosis, the tests offer information crucial to making timely decisions on the most appropriate targeted treatment, in the early diagnosis of graft rejection or malignancy recurrence, and in the detection of gene mutations.
Aware of Aurora’s activities over the years, “EVANGELISMOS” hospital made a request to the management and to the President and founding member of Aurora, Mr Clemente Pinedo, who promptly took action to ensure that new equipment is purchased as soon as possible to meet this need. On this, Mr Pinedo said: “We wish to thank the Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Foundation for immediately responding to our request for meeting such an important need,” and added: “Procurement of this genetic analyzer is vital as it will serve a very large number of patients from various hospitals nationwide. Aurora, in full cooperation with the Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Foundation, proved that they stand by our fellow human beings suffering from hematological diseases, helping them continue their treatments and improve their quality of life.”
The director of the Hematology Unit at the “EVANGELISMOS” hospital, Dr Dimitrios Karakasis said: “It is with great pleasure and emotion that we express our deepest thanks to Aurora for immediately taking action and the Paul and Alexandra Canellopoulos Foundation for its donation. The donation of the genetic analyzer contributes substantially to the normal operation of the Molecular Biology Laboratory of the Hematology and Lymphomas Clinic – Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, constituting another important tool in the early diagnosis and treatment of hematological diseases. We are now pleased to announce that we continue to serve our patients with hematological malignancies, providing all necessary tests for their treatment. “
